i kind of partly moving from exclusive digital notes to analog notes. so basically i write in my notebook/s (not mine actually, they once were my daughter's LOL). then based on the importance (usually those that related to my class, project or manuscript) i rewrite the notes to my digital library. i use obsidian and google keep for my digital system.
then to translate and refine the sentences from indonesian to english, i use Notion with its AI feature.
Interesting system! I really think there's something about paper that makes it perfect for just getting stuff out of your system. One tip you might like is to try using some of these text scanning tools to help transfer from paper to digital (you may do that already of course!) I've found it can be great for saving time. It's also fun to see what "AI" thinks are the key themes or connections on a page of mental vomit. Sometimes it's what I think, sometimes it seems completely off, and sometimes it picks up on something that really makes me think.
Thank you. Yes, the most important thing is getting our thoughts out of our system. For quite some time, I had forgotten the power of pen and paper—how they help us write with less friction. Regarding paper-to-digital conversion, I've tried several tools from Google and Microsoft. While they scan paper well, they often struggle with recognizing Indonesian text. So I usually retype manually, which gives me time for additional editing. And indeed, AI can help us discover new perspectives.
I love notebooks, the leuchtturm1917 really is the gold standard.
I have an ideas factory, it's been in many different places over the years but it's on my phone at the moment, not all ideas are good now, but one day it might be, it's always fun to read through old ones!
Definitely! One of my favourite things is to see things that I was thinking about 2, 3, 5 years ago. Especially when there’s a random thought next to an old idea as well. It’s almost like stepping back into my thinking however many years ago.
I've got an ideas folder in Gmail from 12 years ago. One of my “ideas” was to take vintage film cameras and convert them to modern CCTV cameras to watch your pets whilst you were out.
It's a nostalgia goldmine having access to those thoughts!
Love your concept of cleaning the creative pipes. I write all my ideas down too. It not only helps me organize them but also serves as a great way to reflect on my growth over time. By tracking progress, I can clearly see how much I’ve achieved and improved along the way.
Good point! I didn't think of sharing this but I've certainly benefited from it.
I also have some reference notes in Obsidian (digital note-taking app) that I keep going back to as prompts or frameworks. So useful for irregular tasks but also to just make sure I've not forgotten anything.
